Program Description:
The Bank Teller Program will prepare you for a bank teller position for banks and other financial institutions. This program provides a foundation for a long-term career in banking and teaches you the knowledge, skills and attitude that make bank tellers successful.
A bank teller works directly with the customers and handles deposits, withdrawals, cash handling, bill payments and money orders. Students will learn banking procedures and terminology, customer service skills, business communications, fraud prevention, current banking regulations, dealing with coworkers, ethical issues for bankers and relationship selling.
Professional development training in resume preparation and interviewing techniques will assist you in your job search in BC, across Canada and US.
Royal Canadian Institute of Technology is an Authorized Microsoft IT Academy and a Prometric Testing Centre and can be your best choice for building skills and confidence in Business Banking for the years ahead.
Career Opportunities:
Upon completion of this program, graduates will be able to work as a Bank Teller, Customer/Financial Service Representative, ATM Officer, Cash Cage Teller or Sales and Services Representative. The need for qualified bank tellers in Canada is expected to increase as banks and credit unions continue to expand their services. Employment opportunities allow for flexible working hours.

Entrance Requirements:
Acceptance into the Bank Teller Certificate Program requires at least grade 12 or equivalent, 19 years of age or more and must have a good command of written and spoken English. An entrance test is required.
Program Outline:
Today’s Teller
This course will provide you with the skills to become a Bank Teller in a Canadian bank or credit union. You will learn about the duties and responsibilities of a Bank Teller: Principles of Bank Tellers and Performance Standards, how to handle cheques and cash, detecting fraud, forgeries and counterfeit money and learn about security in the banks.
Banking Today
You will learn about the history of banking in Canada, bank operations and about many of the common bank products and services, how banks developed in Canada to become one of the strongest banking systems in the world.
Business Communications
This course will give you a brief overview about the different forms of business communications including: letter and memo writing, internal and external communications and how to do an effective presentation.
Business Etiquette
This course introduces you to the best way to work with people from different cultures, and builds your awareness to the cross-cultural world we live in.You will learn the proper way of meeting, greeting and introducing people in the world of business and banking.
Business Ethics
This course shows you the ethics of doing business and banking in Canada. You will learn about the banks’ Codes of Conduct and about the values and principles of ethical business.
Customer Service
This course opens the door to dealing with customers. You will cover principles of working with customers but will also focus on the various forms of communications; including body language, words, voice and actions.
Dealing With Coworkers
This course helps you learn how to relate with your coworkers. Team work is a vital component of any business. In the banking industry we have to work well as a team to effectively provide our customers with the best banking experience possible.
Relationship Selling
In this course you will develop ways to learn how to cross-sell bank products and services to the customer, enhancing the client’s respect for the bank and the bank teller; improving customer service, and increasing customer loyalty.
Professional Development
In this course you will learn how to make an effective resume and cover letter. We will look for ways that will make your resume and cover letter stand out from the others. We will also take you through the research process to help you learn more about banks. Practice interviews will prepare you for the real world.
Keyboarding
In this course you will build your keyboarding skills up to 45 w.p.m., the minimum standard for most administrative positions.
