Dismissal Policy Academic probation is a condition under
which students must meet certain criteria in a fixed period of time
before continuing in the program. Students may be placed on probation
or may be dismissed for one or more of the following reasons:
- Plagiarism
- Substandard academic and/or clinical performance
- Substandard attendance
- Disruptive or unprofessional behaviour
- Academic misconduct
- Unlawful behaviour
An
instructor or staff with serious concerns about a student’s performance
under one or more of the above criteria will complete a Student
Performance Review Form and submit it to the
Registrar/Director/Administrator or to the Assistant Administrator. An
assessment to determine whether probation will be conducted by the
Director, and, in the cases of substandard academics, attendance, or
academic misconduct, the relevant instructor. When probation is deemed
warranted, the condition(s), term(s), and performance evaluation(s)
criteria will be outlined in written form.
The probationer will
be notified in writing of the condition(s) of their probation, the
term(s) of their probation, and the required performance evaluation(s)
of their probation. Probationers are evaluated at the end of their
probationary term and the probation is rescinded where the student has
satisfactorily met the performance evaluation(s) of their probation.
If the issues cannot be resolved in this manner, dismissal will become mandatory.
