Student Assessment/Evaluation Policy

This evaluation provides one method for evaluating the teaching component of the learning environment. The questions were selected to provide information for a faculty member to create a better learning environment and to become a better teacher. The student evaluation:

  1. Allows students the opportunity to express their opinions about the quality of instruction at RCIT.
  2. Contributes to an instructor’s evaluation, specifically for the instructor’s self-improvement.
  3. Reveals instructional strengths and weaknesses.
  4. Creates feedback about instruction for faculty.

Evaluations are required for full and part-time faculty. All courses for each instructor will be evaluated once a year.  Also, all new classes beginning will have the opportunity to evaluate their instructor.

We, the college, feel that the evaluations will help with identifying problems. Students are made aware of the purpose behind the evaluation process and it is the student’s responsibility to make sure their evaluation gets back to the main reception area.

All of the evaluations are anonymous and the students are given a minimum of 10 minutes to complete their evaluation. The instructors are not to be shown any results until the grades have been completed.

Instructors can be given photocopies of the written comments, if requested. However, the multiple choice part of the evaluation will only be shown to the instructors in the form of a final analysis.
